Branding Social Good: When Companies and Causes Play Nice

In the spirit of full disclosure I must admit that the main reason this Blog is ‘twINFO worthy’ is because I’m a sucker for anything with the word ‘promulgate’ in it. But in addition to that this is an informative read detailing “gamification” and making the case for it being a business practice that should be considered in the cause marketing arena, including examples of the practice in ‘play’.

Cause Marketing and Ethical Branding

Podcast of NPR’s Diane Rehm show about Cause Marketing which focuses on consumers being “increasingly encouraged to do good while going shopping”. The show is about an hour in length and is a comprehensive discussion about the practice of Cause Marketing including the history, the mutual and multiple benefits and why it works. Featured are - Mara Einstein, author of "Compassion, Inc.: How Corporate America Blurs the Line between What We Buy, Who We Are, and Those We Help", Robert Volmer, President, Crosby-Volmer International Communications and Stacy Palmer, Editor, "The Chronicle of Philanthropy". Absolutely worth a listen!

Interesting perspective on the Toms Shoes giving model that points to the negative impact the donation can have on a local economy. As with most things in life – things look a little different when they are considered as if the shoe is on the other foot…

Gen Y Dissected: Six Types Of Millennials

Ahhh the Millennials…they’re elusive, they’re socially conscious, they have high expectations of corporations and now we can identify that there are six types of them. Yes six! Boston Consulting Group, and I quote, “breaks this massive block of humanity” into six groups with catchy names like “Hip-ennials”, “Anti-Millennials” and the highly sought after “Millennial-Moms”. So please make the time to educate yourself on this topic as you wouldn’t want to be the only one at Happy Hour in the dark about the new lingo. You might catch someone pointing and whispering that you’re an “Old School Millennial”.
